Campus Security Update: Stolen Bikes and Parking Tickets
The beginning of the semester is never uneventful.
The Department of Safety and Security has already responded to a wide variety of incidents. John Blaisdell, Director of Safety and Security, has stressed that his office is working hard to be very transparent with students regarding activities on campus.
Theft has been a big issue since classes started; four bikes were stolen in separate incidents from September 5 to September 15. Movie tickets were stolen from the Student Activities office on September 11 – the perpetrator was caught and sent to Student Conduct.
Confiscated items include two fake IDs and knives found in Midrise.
A hit-and-run was reported in the St Ann’s parking lot on September 15. However, Blaisdell said that parking violations were better recently, which he attributed to the strict enforcement of parking in assigned lots.
Blaisdell noted that Security has been assisting several students with anxiety and mental health issues. Help for students who are struggling is available through Security and Counseling Services.
With the beginning of the semester underway, Blaisdell also wanted to remind students of the Good Samaritan law: you will not get in trouble if you help someone who is in trouble. Blaisdell urged students to “be a good friend” and call Security when help is needed, especially in situations regarding alcohol use. Let’s have a safe semester.
