Note from the For The Record Editorial Board

Our deepest apologies... It is with great regret… In trying times like these...

All of these phrases have been expressed within the past two weeks surrounding the cancellation and postponement of events happening at Marist College and around the nation.

Unfortunately, For the Record 2020 is just another casualty during the global pandemic, Covid-19. We will use the above vernacular to try to express what has been going on through our minds and updating the Marist community on what is going to be the process moving forward.

Our deepest apologies go out to the students who gave their time to put together this year's iteration of For the Record. Our staff, consisting of a handful of amazingly talented writers, a collection of some of the best designers Marist has to offer, and an executive team that has exponential passion to move this project forward and see it come to fruition.

We have said this since the possibility of a cancellation might happen, your stories will be told. We absolutely assure that this will happen, it’s just a matter of when. Given the ever changing global and national situation currently, setting a date would be irresponsible.

Without the likes of our Co-Directors of Photography, Ken Huang ‘20 and Ben Ward ‘20, the spectacular visuals that are adorned by the Marist community wouldn’t have been possible. Marist Circle Editor-in-Chief, Tara Guaimano ‘20, provided vital assistance and direction, stemming from being the previous Editorial Director of For the Record. A special thank you to Hannah Kirk ‘20 for assisting the editorial process and perfecting every student's stories. Without individuals like these, For the Record wouldn’t have been in the final stages prior to the national hault. For that, we thank you all tremendously for the efforts you put into this initiative.

To the entire editorial, design and photography team we recognize and appreciate greatly the hundreds of hours collectively you have put into For the Record. You are all incredibly talented and your work will be showcased, one way or another.

It is with great regret that we had to notify students being showcased in For the Record that the project that allowed them to step out of their comfort zone and let the Marist community see the amazing aspects of their life is now being postponed.

We have said this since the possibility of a cancellation might happen, your stories will be told. We absolutely assure that this will happen, it’s just a matter of when. Given the ever changing global and national situation currently, setting a date would be irresponsible. Once a more comprehensive understanding of the future is available we will be putting together a comprehensive plan of action, and will make decisions on how to distribute our magazine and give these students the spotlight that they deserve.

While our executive board is graduating come May 2020, our effort and passion for For the Record will live on far past that. The potential for a Fall 2020 launch would not be out of the picture. We will be keeping an open mind to rescheduling the launch event, and will update the community accordingly.

All in all we want to reassure the students involved in this project and the community that this isn’t the end of For the Record.

In trying times like these keeping active and keeping busy is of utmost importance, and the For the Record team is not oblivious to that. Through the self-isolation and mandatory social distancing, the For the Record executive, editorial, design and photography team will not halt  in perfecting the portraits and magazine to then be put into student, parent and faculty hands.

We want to reassure the Marist community that For the Record is on the horizon and thank everyone for their patience and understanding.
