Security Beat: Leo Mischief, Laundry Theft and Drug Busts
An act of larceny occurred on Feb. 1 after a student reported to the Office of Safety and Security that her clothes were missing from the Marian Hall laundry room. The clothes have not yet been identified; the incident is currently under investigation.
Also on Feb. 1, a drug law violation took place after security discovered drug paraphernalia in a Leo Hall room after the smoke detector activation caused the fire alarm to go off. Upon discovery, the paraphernalia was immediately confiscated and destroyed by security. The case is now considered closed after being referred to Marist Student Conduct.
Criminal mischief continued in Leo Hall on Feb. 3 when a television in the lower common area was found destroyed with pieces left on the floor. The case has been closed, as security could not investigate any further angles with the information provided by residents and staff.
A student reported that their wallet had been stolen in the McCann Center on Feb. 3. Security has since closed the case and referred it to law enforcement.
A dating violence conflict took place in Ward Hall on Feb. 8, where a student called security stating that a former girlfriend would not leave the student’s room. The case has since been closed by security and referred to Marist Title IX.
Continuing the break-in trend of the last issue the Circle, another student reported that their vehicle had been entered without permission in the Upper West Cedar parking lot on Feb. 10. Security has since referred the case to local police for further investigation.
As vehicle break-ins are still occurring, Director of Safety and Security John Blaisdell once again reminds students to lock their vehicles when parking on or off campus and avoid leaving any valuable items from being visible.
