Four years post-graduation, Danisha Craig ‘18 continues to represent the Red Fox nation on bigger and brighter stages.

An honored Marist alum, the Connecticut-born graduate is a woman of many talents. This past summer, Craig was sworn in under the Biden-Harris Administration to serve full-time in the United States Department of Energy. As a Marist student, she accomplished several feats both inside and outside the classroom as an academic scholar and record-holding student athlete.

In her undergraduate studies Craig majored in Political Science with a double-minor in Women’s Studies and Environmental Policy. While earning this Bachelor of Arts, she simultaneously obtained her Paralegal certificate before graduating in May of 2018.

That hard work and dedication put into her studies and internships earned her immediate employment in Washington D.C. as a Staff Assistant in the United States Senate in July 2018. From there she remained at the Senate, working under United States Senator Richard Blumenthal through the COVID-19 pandemic.

In her years at the Senate she moved up in various positions, entering as a Staff Assistant and exiting this past June as a Legislative Assistant. Her position during the pandemic required managing responsibilities in a fast-paced environment such as writing correspondence, gathering legislative research and remaining constantly informed of any changes to legislation and policies.

In her time at Marist, she shined in the School of Liberal Arts taking courses like “Congress Today” and “Scope and Methods of Political Analysis.” Outside of courses she was also an active member of the Marist American Bar Association (ABA), in addition to working as both a Resident Assistant and Surveyor for the Marist Poll.

Beyond her scholarly achievements, Craig also performed as a remarkable student-athlete. In her time at Marist she competed for the College in both indoor and outdoor track throughout all four years of college. As a sprinter she set countless school records over time, even breaking her own personal best times in the 400-meter dash both seasons of junior year. Craig still holds this 400-meter record today, alongside the 4x100-meter relay, SMR relay and 300-meter dash all of which are recognized in the McCann Gym.

Elected team captain her senior year, she maintained a close relationship with her teammates - constantly inspiring them to keep showing up as a team on the daily and accept no limitations to their success. She recognizes her experiences and the support she received as a Marist athlete alongside her various academic experiences as essential preparation for the positions she held after college.

Today, Craig’s responsibilities are grand, working for a premier executive department of the U.S. federal government. Her previous work centered around energy, environmental issues, economic policy and banking at the Senate earned her a position as a Legislative Affairs Advisor in the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs, where she has remained for roughly seven months now.

Since her departure Craig has been lovingly regarded by her coaches, professors and advisors for her incredible work and continues to leave a lasting impact on the Marist community.
