Marist Selects Dr. Jacqueline Reich as the Dean of the School of Communications and the Arts

This June, Marist College announced Dr. Jacqueline Reich as the new dean of the School of Communications and the Arts (SCA). At the time of her appointment, Reich said, “I am so thrilled to be joining Marist at this pivotal moment in higher education.”

Reich will permanently fill the role of dean after the SCA was led last year by Dr. James Snyder on an interim basis. In an interview with the Circle right before the start of the Fall 2021 semester, Reich shared how she is “really looking forward to getting to meet and talk to the SCA students.”

Previously, Reich held a similar role at Fordham University in The Bronx, where she fostered the addition of four majors and five minors and new undergraduate and master’s programs. Before that, she spent 18 years at Stony Brook University on Long Island.

When asked what experience she’ll bring to Marist from her former schools, Reich declared, “every institution has a unique culture, and it takes time to understand it. Yes, there are some issues that need to be addressed quickly, but I never underestimate the power of listening and reflecting before action.”

Since officially beginning her work at Marist in July, Reich and the SCA have been busy making sure that “students courses have excellent professors and well-equipped, safe classrooms.” Reich also shared how they are “looking at ways we can create new opportunities and programs for students that reflect Marist’s commitment to innovative education, diversity and community engagement.”

Finally, Reich said students in the SCA can expect her to be inclusive, present and welcoming; “I hope to create a real sense of community in the SCA.” Be on the lookout for Dr. Reich and her rescue dogs on campus from time to time.
