Marist Enrollment: By the Numbers
This semester, Marist College houses an on-campus population of around 4,800 students and serves approximately 500 fully virtual students, bringing the total enrollment for the Spring 2021 semester around 5,300 –– hundreds lower than the enrollment in recent years.
Despite a relatively low number of on-campus residents and students in general, this year’s numbers do fall between 5,000 and 6,000 students, where Marist’s total undergraduate enrollment has remained since 2010, according to Executive Vice President Geoffrey Brackett.
The Class of 2024 is a different story: this year’s freshman class is 15-20% smaller than the usual, Executive Vice President Thom Wermuth said. The class lost an additional 58 students from the fall to the spring semester. There were 1,101 freshmen to start the 2020-21 school year, with 1,043 returning in the spring.
It wasn’t just students who opted for fully remote learning in some cases –– 95 faculty members were approved to be all online for both semesters this year. With the choice to select completely online courses, students and faculty who didn’t feel comfortable returning to campus due to coronavirus could work virtually this year.
Looking ahead, future enrollment appears it will continue at similar totals as were expected before and now during the pandemic. “Marist has seen very good results in the admissions cycle,” Brackett said. “Our applications were on par with the 2019-20 cycle, which saw the most applications in the College’s history. We are overall very pleased with the direction of this year’s admissions process.”
