Campus Security Update: Halloweekend Keeps Security Busy
The past two weeks have been eventful for the Department of Safety and Security.
On Oct. 29, there was an instance of criminal mischief after a dispute with an Uber driver at Upper West in which one of the passengers kicked the vehicle.
After two people were seen climbing through the windows of Leo on Halloween, Security visited a room in which there was paraphernalia out; this resulted in a drug violation. Also, on Halloween, a student reported that a blue-line American flag car magnet was stolen off of their vehicle in Lot B.
A hit-and-run was reported in the McCann lot on Nov. 1.
On Nov. 2, the wallet of a staff member was stolen at the Student Center. The police are investigating the incident.
There was a report of items being stolen from a townhouse in Foy on Nov. 7. Mr. Blaisdell, Director of Safety and Security, said that “there is evidence that points towards people of interest, all of which has been turned over to the police who are continuing the investigation.” Security has taken measures to re-secure the house, including changing the locks.
There have been two fires on campus since the beginning of November. A dirty oven pan resulted in a grease fire at a Lower West Cedar townhouse on Nov. 6. Two days later, on Nov. 8, there was a smoking trash can outside of Ward Hall. The fire department responded, and it is believed that a lit cigarette may have been the cause.
A hit-and-run occurred in the Foy parking lot on Nov. 8. The student reported that there were scrapes and scratches on both sides of the car.
Additionally, there have been reports of indistinct graffiti markings around campus. The markings do not appear to be any recognizable symbols.
Update: As of Nov. 11, the total of reports relating to adverse reactions after drinking at a local bar - ranging from August and October - is six.
