Q&A Series: Students will use Grubhub App to Order Food on Campus

Administrators from Marist Dining Services held a live web seminar discussing their plans for the fall semester on Friday. They discussed a variety of topics and took questions from students and parents on what dining will look like this fall.

The seminar was hosted by Christopher Humphreys, a First Year Programs and Leadership Development Coordinator. Humphreys was joined by Steve Sansola, the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Kate Cole, the Field Marketing Specialist for Marist Dining Services.

Sansola began the meeting by going into detail on the major safety precautions the college is taking in terms of dining. These points include reducing the density of the dining facilities, increasing the procedures for cleaning and sanitizing on a regular basis, the addition of the Grubhub app for dining facilities and the introduction of a campus delivery program.

Sansola then asked students for their support and to understand that “things are going to be different” this year.

The moderators then began taking questions from attendees. One of the first questions was in reference to the main dining hall and whether students will be able to eat and socialize there in the fall. Cole said that students will have two options at the dining hall.

Their first option is to pre-order food using the Grubhub app and eat in the new outdoor dining tent adjacent to the dining hall or bring the food to their room or another campus location. The second option is to make a 45 minute time slot reservation using the Grubhub app where students will be able to dine within the dining hall.

The dining hall will be limited capacity and will be able to seat about 280 students. The outdoor dining tent will seat about 125 students. The outdoor dining tent will also have air conditioning and heat.

The dining hall will maintain the same hours as last year, open from 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekends. The dining hall will be closed twice daily from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. for cleaning and sanitizing. Students will still be able to use the Grubhub app for grab-and-go during that period.

There will no longer be any self-serve stations at any Marist dining locations. All students will be served by Marist dining personnel.

Students will be able to pre order food using Grubhub at all dining facilities other than the Library Brew and the Steel Plant.

Dining Services will also implement a new delivery service this fall. Students will be able to have food delivered to any on campus residence area. The Cabaret will deliver on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 5 to 10 p.m. Marketplace will offer delivery daily from 5 to 10 p.m.

When students arrive on campus, they will need to register their Marist ID on the Grubhub app in order to access its features. Students will be able to use both meal swipes and Thrifty with Grubhub.

Sansola ended the meeting by asking students to “come with an open mind and be respectful of the college’s norms and policies related to our dining service operation and all of campus programming.”
