Marist Announces Details of Prorated Refunds

Marist students studying at the Poughkeepsie campus received an email on Friday outlining the details of their prorated refunds. The adjustment includes reimbursement for unused housing, meal plans, student activities and health fees.

The prorated period totals 54 days, accounting for the time between spring break’s originally intended end on March 23 and the conclusion of the spring semester on May 15. The college will return 46.2% percent of housing charges and 46.2% of student activities and health service fees, amounting to $65 for student activities and $74 for health services.

Meal plan refunds will reflect the students’ individual meal plans. Students using the “Anytime Dining” plan will receive a prorated adjustment of $1,437, or 48.5% of their meal plan charge.

These decisions follow the March 16 decision that their semesters would move online amid the COVID-19 outbreak. All students that remained on-campus during the extended spring break period were instructed to leave residential housing by March 27.

Adjustments for students on block meal plans will include their “remaining balance of unused meals and Thrifty Cash in their account as of March 23. Marist Money account balances will be handled separately,” per the email from John Pecchia and Joe Weglarz, the Vice President for Business Affairs/CFO and Executive Director of Student Financial Services, respectively.

These adjustments will apply first to any outstanding balances on a student’s account. Any leftover credit could be applied to spring student loans, fall or summer classes, or graduate tuition charges. Students may also request a refund.

Students will be able to select options at https://my.marist.edu/adjustment starting on the date associated with their class rank: April 22 for seniors, April 24 for juniors, April 25 for sophomores, and April 26 for freshmen.

The email did not include information for students who studied abroad or participated in the Marist in Manhattan program.

“A separate refund and credit policy will address students who studied abroad during the spring 2020 semester. That policy will be communicated directly to those students to whom it applies.”
