10-Day Pause Lifts, With Restrictions in Place
After 10 days on a precautionary pause, Marist’s on-ground classes will resume on Nov. 16 at 8:00 a.m. Most pause restrictions remain in place, and 71 cases are still active according to the college’s dashboard.
“During this time, the College conducted more than 4,000 tests and was actively engaged in aggressive contact tracing to contain the virus. These efforts resulted in a dramatic decline in cases, and coupled with strong student cooperation, were key in controlling the spread, and achieving a seven-day positivity rate lower than that of Dutchess County and the Mid-Hudson Region,” the email from the college’s vice presidents said.
Many restrictions implemented during the pause will remain in effect. Students must limit interactions to their “pod” and remain in their own room or apartment. Meal plans will continue as grab-and-go only and athletic training sessions are cancelled. Only travel directed by Marist health professionals and staff is permitted, and only approved visitors can enter campus.
“We’re extremely grateful to the staff members who have gone above and beyond their ordinary responsibilities to keep the campus safe. We also applaud our faculty who, despite challenging conditions, have demonstrated their dedication to teaching our students,” the email continued. “And, of course, we thank our students, who have responded to the challenges of this ever-changing environment by adopting the appropriate health protocols to enable us to continue the semester.”
