Letter from the Editor Nov. 3
Dear Marist College Community,
In our final print edition of Fall 2019, I want to thank you all for a great semester at the Marist Circle. It has been an honor to inform and inspire the Marist community through the vehicle of campus news. In a time where the American news media is facing one of its largest challenges in history, it is more important now than ever that we strive to report our news thoroughly, fairly and accurately.
Marist Circle has seen immense growth in the past year. In 2019 thus far, Marist Circle has garnered over 64.1k unique web visitors, increasing by 75 percent since 2018. We have had over 55.2k web visits and over 110k page views this calendar year as well.
In the 78 years since its inception, the Marist Circle continues to work towards its commitment to be a voice for all students. We strive to represent all students and community members fairly and equally. With thorough investigation of Poughkeepsie’s infrastructure and community issues, we have strived to extend our coverage to inform the community both on and off-campus. We also continue to remember two members of the Marist Community, communications student, Daniel Shapiro ‘22 and staff member, Gary Coyne.
This semester, we also piloted our print partnership with the Center Field, presented by the Marist Center for Sports Communication. We would like to thank Center Field Editor-in-Chief Will Bjarnar ‘20 and Deputy Editor-in-Chief Lily Caffrey-Levine ‘20 for their excellence in reporting on campus sports.
We are also excited to have announced our third rendition of Marist Circle Special Initiative, For The Record 2020. As the former Editorial Director and member of the inaugural team of the initiative, I would like to thank our Creative Director, Raphael Beretta ‘20 for using his groundbreaking creativity to pilot the project’s third life.
The work we do at Marist Circle would not be possible without our hardworking and talented editorial and strategy teams. I want to thank our Managing Editor, Ken Guillaume ‘20, for his dedication and commitment to our team. I would also like to thank our Chief of Graphic Design, Sydney Kysar ‘21, for bringing her unique eye to inspire our team in creating each print edition to be more innovative than the last.
I extend my personal thanks to Bernadette Hogan ‘17, Goodman Lepota ‘18 and Alyssa Hurlbut ‘19 for showing me what it means to act as a voice for our community. For their relentless support, we thank: Robert Lynch, Dr. John Ansley, Leslie Foxhall, Kathy Santoiemmo, Emily Saland, Dr. James Sndyer, Dr. Mary Stone, Dr. Kevin Lerner, Kathy McNulty and President Dennis Murray.
Marist Circle is looking forward to continuing with our first print edition of Spring 2020 on Tuesday, Jan. 21. We will continue to keep the community informed online at our website throughout the winter break.
Thank you,
Tara Guaimano ‘20
Editor-in-Chief
