Downtown Poughkeepsie has a new happening pizzeria in the form The Dutch Crown; a late night pizza pub offering customers delicious variations of their sourdough New York style pies, delicious wings, a full bar and more.

Nearly a year ago, 23-year-olds Eli Kochman and Chris Gannon came up with a new idea for young individuals to hang out and eat stomach filling foods. The high school friends softly launched the restaurant on September 25th, which was a bigger hit than expected.  “The soft opening went so well we said screw it, and we’ve been open ever since,” said Gannon, manager of The Dutch Crown.

Gannon who acts as manager and Head Chef Kochman opened the pizzeria with hopes of providing college students and residents with quality late night sourdough pizza for a reasonable price, while simultaneously giving customers a fun late night hangout spot.

Part of opening up the pizzeria was the creativity that Kochman and Gannon can have with the design of the place and its menu. What sets this pizza joint apart from others is the sourdough crust. Kochman says there are a variety of reasons to specialize in exclusively sourdough pizzas but the biggest had to be its uniqueness and the interesting health benefits of sourdough over regular dough.

“It’s far easier to digest than normal dough and is even a bit healthier,” Kochman said. In fact multiple research backed studies point out that sourdough leads to better gut health.

On top of a variation of customizable 14 inch pies The Dutch Crown also offers varying flavors of wings, meatballs, fries and salads.

“We’re looking to expand into sandwiches, pastas and specialty cocktails in the near future as well,” Gannon said.

Nearby on Main St. between Mahoneys and the Brown Derby, the Dutch Crown is in a prime location for the late night college crowd. “We definitely see this being a great place for students to meet before heading to the bar to get some food and some drinks and then walk over to the bars,” said Gannon.

Almost everything offered on the menu is made from scratch, from the dough to their spicy buffalo wing sauce. Pizzas range from ten to fifteen dollars depending on toppings. Some popular pizzas offered are the Drunken Pepperoni and the Chopped Cheese Pizza.

The Dutch Crown currently offers a Sunday Wings special where one can buy any variation of wings for a dollar a piece. In the future, The Dutch Crown plans on adding more specials and deals such as happy hour, college night and even a date night special.

Red Foxes can visit The Dutch Crown seven days a week, Monday through Thursday 11-10, Friday and Saturday 12-12 and on Sundays from 12-8.
