Plato’s Closet Coming to Poughkeepsie
The popular second-hand clothing store is making its debut in the Hudson Valley.
A new Plato’s Closet is coming to Poughkeepsie and will be located in the 9 Mall plaza.
The sustainable fashion store will be owned and operated by Kimberley Revak, a Beacon, New York native. Before the new location’s opening, the closest Plato’s Closet to the Poughkeepsie area was in Danbury, Connecticut. There are over 500 individually owned and operated stores across the country.
Plato’s Closet pays cash on the spot to customers for fashionable and stylish gently-used items, while also offering high-quality, gently-used items from all the top brands at affordable prices. The store chain accepts a range of items, including clothing, athletic wear, accessories and outerwear.
Students all over campus are waiting in anticipation until the new Plato’s Closet opening, but many students have never been before. This creates a new and fun experience for many Red Foxes who haven’t experienced a Plato’s Closet.
“I’ve never been before, but I’m excited for its opening. It’s always nice to have a new, different kind of shop open for those like myself who want the opportunity to go thrifting while at college,” said Luke Richards ‘28.
“I’ve been to Plato’s Closet before. I’m really excited to get the opportunity to show my friends who have never been why I enjoy thrifting so much,” said Nicolleta Amato ‘28.
Plato’s Closet offers discounts of up to 70% off retail price and is a great way to start thrifting for those who don’t regularly go to thrift stores.
Items can go back on the rack instead of the landfill, which helps create a sustainable fashion cycle, which is one of the many positives of Plato’s Closet. There is a wide variety of items available, and students can make money by donating clothes to Plato’s Closet.
The grand opening, following the open-to-buy period currently taking place, is scheduled around the new year in late December or early January.
