Dutchess County Ballot Results
The Dutchess County 2023 elections have concluded. Here is a recap of the key races from this general election’s ballot.
State Supreme Court Justice
The New York State Supreme Court of the 9th Judicial District (J.D.) had eight names on this year’s ballot. Voters were instructed to vote for only four of them. The four with the most votes are as follows:
Francesca E. Connolly (D), Associate Justice of the Appellate Division of the New York State Court - received 35,565 votes (14.8%).
Larry J. Schwartz (D), Rockland County Court Judge and Acting Supreme Court Judge - received 32,419 votes (13.5%).
Rolf M. Thorsen (D), Acting Justice of the Supreme Court 9th J.D. and County Court Judge for Rockland County - received 31,675 votes (13.2%).
Charley Wood (D), State Supreme Court Justice - received 33,165 votes (13.8%).
County Clerk
On the ballot for County Clerk - responsible for court records maintenance in the county, as well as managing resident/citizen licensing and certifications - were two choices: Kenya Gadsden (D) and Bradford Kendall (R). Voters could also write in a candidate. The results are as follows:
Kenya Gadsden, a former member of the Fishkill Town Board and former vice president of the Beacon City School Board - received 31,294 votes (46.4%), losing out to Kendall by a margin of 7.2%.
(WINNER) Bradford Kendall, incumbent Dutchess County Clerk - received 36,143 votes and 53.6% of the votes. Declared winner of the race.

District Attorney
On the ballot for District Attorney - responsible for filing criminal charges, recommending sentencing, launching further investigations, etc. - were two choices: Anthony Parisi (D) and Matthew A. Weishaupt (R). Voters could also write in a candidate. The results are as follows:
(WINNER) Anthony Parisi, a Dutchess County Public Defender - received 34,810 total votes, collecting 51.7% of votes. Declared winner of the race.
Matthew A. Weishaupt, former Chief Assistant District Attorney of Dutchess County - received 32,539 votes (48.3%), losing out to Parisi by a slim margin of 3.4%.
34 votes (0.1%) were write-ins.
County Executive
On the ballot for County Executive - responsible for signing bills passed by the county council and managing the county governmental agencies among other responsibilities - were Tommy Zurehellen (D) and Susan J. Serino (R). Voters could also write in a candidate. The results are as follows:
Tommy Zurhellen (D), Marist professor, veteran, activist and founder of the VetZero organization - received 29,596 votes (43.3%), losing to Susan J. Serino by a margin of 13.3%.
(WINNER) Susan J. Serino (R), former Dutchess County representative in the NY State Senate and small business owner - received 38,666 votes (56.6%). Declared winner of the race.
