A Sweet Escape At MPorium
Student-run boutique MPorium, located in Steel Plant Studios, held a grand re-opening on Feb. 13 with the launch of their new theme, reintroducing classic designs and releasing new apparel.
The new theme, Sweet Escape, encapsulates bright and happy colors often associated with a tropical vacation. This theme can improve anyone’s day with an orange, pink and blue color scheme that reminds shoppers of a sunny, summer day.
“MPorium at Marist is a cross-functional and collaborative student-run business, basing our ideas off of trend research in the industry, as well as inspiration from the team. As many students are returning back from studying abroad, longing for summer or just needing a reset, the term “escape” came to mind,” said student directors Elizabeth Orlandi ‘23 and Rebecca Homan ‘23. “Sweet Escape encourages students to step into the store and feel a sense of relief, reminding them of a tropical getaway.”
Citrus fruits and vibrant hues create a welcoming and warm environment, serving as a space for students and faculty to unwind for a moment.
“Redoing the store was an incredible experience that all members of the course, despite their divisions, got to take part in. There is a lot of preparation that lead up to our three day renovation including solidifying our vision and theme name, sourcing and ordering props and creating a new floor plan, as well as planning and designing each area of the store with fixtures, props or merchandise,” said Orlandi and Homan.
Along with the new theme came new products to shop for. These items include a t-shirt signed “Forever Chasing Marist Sunsets” and a “Love Yourself First” sweatshirt.
Since the grand re-opening, the store reported that some of their best-sellers included the 845 Hoodie, Love Yourself First Crewneck, Marist Keychain and Marist Belt Bag.
Lea Papakosmas ‘26 expressed a lot of excitement at MPorium’s launch event. “I love the pop of color. When you walk in the store, it’s so colorful and vibrant. The decorations fit perfectly with the theme. It really feels like a beach vibe,” said Papakosmas.
From clothing to jewelry and other novelties, there’s something for everyone. Shopping at MPorium is a great way to support the fashion program and grab a special gift for yourself or someone special.
