On Friday, Sept. 29, Marist College Music put on their first performance of the semester to start off Marist’s 2023 family weekend. The performance was held in the Nelly Goletti Theater, and also broadcasted live in a separate room of the Murray Student Center for those who couldn’t be seated in the theater.

The Marist Music program consists of almost 300 students who put the performance together in the first five weeks of the semester. Planning for the performance, however, began in July. Students involved in the production moved into campus a few days earlier than other students to prepare practicing every Tuesday and Thursday in preparation.

The show had a full house audience and included performances from Marist Low Voices, Chamber Singers, First Year and Upper Class Treble Choir, and the Orchestra. The music ranged from 18th century Telemann and Mozart, to the 2016 film “La La Land’s” “Another Day of Sun” and Lady Gaga Fugue. Piano accompanists Christopher Wynkoop and Aimee Brainard played alongside the performers.

The audience was met with short words from Sarah Williams, Director of Choral Activities, Bryan Lynch, Assistant Conductor for Marist Singers and First Year Treble Choir and Teresa Tyce, Marist Orchestra Conductor. Each introduced and led the conduction for their respective groups.

“They sing to communicate, and I believe they did a wonderful job on Friday evening. I am so very proud and honored to be one of their conductors,” said Williams.

The music program will return for their upcoming Night on Broadway event, a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on Oct. 28, 2023.
