Best Spots on Campus
The Marist College campus has a picturesque feel to it, despite the eyesore of Dyson renovations. With fall upon us, the chill of the weather and warmth in the leaves will make the most loved spots on campus feel a little sweeter. Here are some of the best places on campus to check out.
MPorium at Marist
Located in Steel Plant Studios, MPorium is a student-run boutique that embodies the feeling of home with soft tones and cozy sweats for purchase. This semester’s new theme, “it’s good to be home.” will have you buying face masks and wellness patches galore to pamper yourself during the coming cold days. Inside the Steel Plant and just around the corner from MPorium is a café that will surprise you with its bubble tea and bacon egg and cheese bagels.
McCann Center
Renovated in 2020, McCann Center is more than just a gym. Shockingly, McCann Center arguably has some of the best food on campus and just might have you ditching the dining hall lunches. Not to mention, the rooftop access that allows for a breath of fresh air or guided yoga classes is a must while the weather still allows. Exploring this 60,000-square-foot fitness center seems to hold surprises left and right.
Hancock Center
A gem that most people overlook is Hancock Center. Known for its Hancock Brew that serves Starbucks and snacks, Hancock is the perfect spot for a study session or homework grind when you’ve grown tired of the Library. Whether sitting inside or outside, Hancock is a nice spot to catch a glimpse of the sunset.
The Boathouse
Marist is located on the Hudson River, so it would be foolish not to take advantage of nature’s beauty right at our fingertips. The river topped as an overwhelming favorite among students and faculty. Assistant Professor of Media Arts Dr. Dan Amernick said, “Although I haven’t gone down in a while, I find it really peaceful and I recommend it to all to take a trip down to the Boathouse and enjoy the view, the bucolic splendor of the river.” Whether it’s a picnic with your friends or a walk for some fresh air, the calming rolls of the river offer a sense of serenity and appreciation for being right where you are.
Students chimed in on their personal favorite spots on campus.
“My favorite spot is Steel Plant,” said Corinne Heffernan ‘23. “I really like the tables in there because they’re so big. It's a nice open space with a lot of light so if I ever have a lot of work, I'll make the trek over there.”
Grace Sander ‘23 found it hard to pick one place, but ultimately decided on Lowell Thomas as her go-to spot. “I’d honestly, probably say anywhere within Lowell Thomas. I really like the lobby area. The windows are really nice, you always see familiar faces in it, very comfortable seating. I honestly spend a lot of my time in here,” said Sander.
Whether it's the perfect study area or scenic views of the Hudson River, the Marist campus has a lot to take advantage of.
