Coming on the heels of their successful podcast launch last year, the Silver Needle Runway communications team is back with the “More Than Fashion” podcast.

In conjunction with the theme of this year’s Silver Needle Runway, “Illusion,” the podcast strives to help listeners learn about the world of fashion through a more diverse lens, allowing them to shift their preconceived notions about the inner workings of the fashion industry.

SNR35’s Student Communications Director, Erica Capobianco ’21, hosts the podcast with the help of Student Communications Directors and Co-Producers, Julia Mazzella ’22 and Lauren Sce ‘22. “Our goal in producing this podcast is to have it be part of SNR’s transition from traditional fashion show to a multimedia brand, and to help uplift the next generation of fashion leaders,” Capobianco said.

The title of the show derives from the re-branding of the Silver Needle Runway into what has become more than just a fashion show. “We definitely have a much more diverse group of students this year in our [Fashion Show Production] class this year, who are able to showcase a whole spectrum of talents from video editing, to digital media, and even animation,” Mazzella said.

Mazzella and Sce booked guests for the podcast with a focus on the unexpected in mind. By including guests such as blogger Alexa Curtis, who discussed responsible fashion blogging, or Dr. Dawnn Karen, the “World’s First Fashion Psychologist” and Marist alumna Alyssa Nagel, the team hopes to “show the vastness of what your career in fashion could look like in the future,” Capobianco said.

Upcoming topics on the podcast include virtual reality and activism in fashion. “I really hope that students can see beyond those harsh stereotypes in fashion after listening to the podcast,” Sce said. “There is so much more to fashion than what meets the eye, and you can use your voice in fashion to make a really big change in the world.”

Mazzella added: “As we enter the fashion major at Marist, many people do not know about all of the possibilities for a career in fashion, and this podcast to have these interesting guests to hear from is truly unique,”

“You will want to take notes.” Capobianco said.

Marist Fashion’s Silver Needle Runway communications team has taken on a number of new projects as well as the podcast, including building their own social media presence, collaborations with the Mporium, as well as local businesses, and even has found a presence on up-and-coming app, Clubhouse.
