A Look into the SNR Illusion
The coveted Marist College Silver Needle Runway Show is back and better than ever. With the countdown to an in-person and virtual show, the 35th runway is bringing a fresh new color scheme to all of the brand new social pages @silverneedlerunway.
With a class of 37 talented students, Arianna Pittelli 21’ the creative director of the SNR class, is working overtime to make sure the show goes off without a hitch. With all pastels such as lavender, orange and yellow it’s bringing the spring to the runway this year. “We wanted something fun and colorful, kind-of 70s inspired. While earth tones and neutrals are really in right now, we can all use some color in these dark times,” said Pittelli. “The use of color also lets us contrast with a grayscale palette, allowing us to acknowledge the light in the dark”
The social media director for the class, Kerry Flynn 21’ said when building the socials she really wanted to draw potential viewers in by posting about the “brand values” the SNR class holds. In a graphic by Sarah Fay found on Instagram, Flynn says, “It still ties into illusion, as there is a silhouette of a face on the cutout of the person and connects back to our first artwork piece by Sarah Fay with the paint strokes and repeated silhouettes.”
The graphic features a woman on a teal blue background with the illusion of two other silhouettes behind her. She looks to have been swiped across the screen. All of the promotional pieces have been heavily oriented in the ‘Illusion’ theme of this year's runway show. With elements of tie-dye behind the designers and many lavender backgrounds, it’s cohesive with what is to come on the runway.
Flynn stated, “From artwork that our class has created to the collections our senior designers have been working on, the talent is extraordinary. There’s a deeper connection when you get to know how something was created and who created it”
What makes this SNR different from all the others? The talented group of “digital media students has taken it to the next level -- highly stylized art [and] animation,” said Pittelli. The introduction of all these new teams is what makes this SNR stand out from the past 34. It brings a new edge to all of the work the students are putting in.
The promotional posts all show off the vibrant color palette along with featuring the talented class. “It’s important to see the people behind these creations, which is my favorite part about this year's show,” said Flynn. The promotional art shows the group effort of all these hard-working Marist students. These pieces get people interested in what is to come on the actual runway day.
The Silver Needle Runway Show will premiere May 22 along with a virtual presentation, and a lookbook which will include all the looks and designers. All information about streaming can be found on their social media accounts.
