October Netflix Premieres Arrive in Time for Halloween

As the ever-unpredictable 2020 slowly comes to a close, October has finally arrived, filled with Halloween festivities and the cozy season of fall. Due to COVID-19, watching new movies and TV shows provides the ideal safe and fun holiday activity. This October, Netflix has several exciting releases set, featuring stars from Adam Sandler and Lily Collins. Take a look at some of the most anticipated releases here:

Unsolved Mysteries

Volume two of “Unsolved Mysteries,” a reboot of a popular series that spanned from 1988 to 2010, comes to Netflix on Oct.16. Following true crime cases and reports of the paranormal, this series is perfect for those with an investigative hunch and encourages the audience to try to solve the mysteries themselves.

Hubie Halloween

On the lighter side of things, a family-friendly horror flick will be released on Oct. 7, including popular actors like Adam Sandler, Noah Schnapp and Steve Buscemi. This spooky film focuses on the eccentric Hubie Dubois, who works to keep the residents of Salem, Massachusetts safe as Halloween festivities spring up across the town. Throughout the film, a series of mysterious disappearances lead to a suspicion of a threat –– leaving Hubie to lead the town to safety. 

Grand Army

On Oct. 16, this teen drama mixed with timely issues makes its debut. Told from five different perspectives, it explores the struggles of teens attending a Brooklyn high school. Exploring difficulties with love, sex and life, this new series will spark the interest of young adult audiences. 

Emily in Paris

With leading lady Lily Collins, “Emily in Paris” had its season one debut on Oct. 2. Collins’ second Netflix original series, this comedy explores the journey of an American woman from the Midwest to Paris for a new job. The series follows Emily as she adjusts to a new French lifestyle and clashing cultures. 

Unfriended

A horror film that originally was released in 2014 will make its way to Netflix streaming services on Oct. 16, just in time for the spooky season. Six teens take part in an online video chat when they are joined by an anonymous user: a classmate who committed suicide. The movie follows the teens as they are terrorized by this virtual ghost.
